United Methodist Children's Home of Ohio

Spiritual Life

What Is The Role of Spiritual Life At UMCH?

The role of spiritual life at The United Methodist Children's Home is to help children to clarify and develop their own values, see themselves interrelated with community in meaningful ways, and to encourage a world view filled with hope, healing and wholeness. The role of spiritual life at UMCH is also to support the children in their own religious traditions if this is part of their cultural heritage, to encourage children to explore spirituality in community, and to make spiritual commitments that will support their treatment goals.

The United Methodist Children's Home is an agency with a Christian heritage and affiliation. We believe that the spiritual needs of the children that we serve are as important as any of their other needs. We respect all religious and spiritual beliefs that lead to healing, reconciliation and wholeness; thus, we will offer to provide opportunities for children of all faith backgrounds to practice their own religious beliefs. Spiritual diversity is respected and appreciated at UMCH.

Spirituality Is Explored In The Following Ways...

The United Methodist Children's Home trains new staff about the importance of spirituality in the lives of children and the value of spiritual diversity.

An optional mid-week chapel service with youth leadership is offered weekly for all residential children.

All children are invited to participate in optional Bible Study. Also, children expressing interest will be linked with other community spiritual leaders for study of sacred text from their own cultural heritage as requested.

Staff will transport children upon request to a weekly worship service within the community on weekends.

The Director of Spiritual Life provides cottage programming on spiritual issues.

Children in residential care are encouraged to participate in regular community service activities that may be campus-wide or cottage-based.

Pastoral care is available regularly for children who wish to discuss spiritual issues with the Spiritual Life staff.

Internships are available for Seminary Students.
Send an e-mail to Interns, to request information on Internships
